JMM founder & former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren dies at 81 after prolonged illness
The 81-year-old leader and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Shibu Soren, popularly known as ‘Dishom Guru or Guruji’ passed away at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi on Monday (August 4, 2025) morning.
He was suffering from kidney-related ailment, and had suffered a stroke one-and-a-half months back. He was on a life support system since one month.
His son and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren confirmed the death in message posted on ‘X’ saying, “Respected Guru Dishom has left us all. Today, I have become empty.”
A hospital bulletin said Shibu Soren was declared dead at 8:56 a.m. on Monday (August 4, 2025). Shibu Soren had suffered a stroke one and a half months back and was on a life support system for the last month. He was under the treatment of Dr. A.K. Bhalla, Chairman, Nephrology and a team from Neurology and ICU, hospital sources told The Hindu. He was shifted to the Delhi hospital from Ranchi on June 19, 2025.
