23-Year-Old Pranavi Urs Makes History, Becomes First Indian Woman to Win Asian Games Golf Gold

16

India’s 23-year-old golfer Pranavi Urs scripted history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games.

The Mysuru-born golfer entered the final round with a three-shot lead at 15-under 195 and held her nerve to finish on top with a total of 15-under 265.

Pranavi’s historic individual gold was followed by another medal as she, alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, helped India secure silver in the women’s team event. India finished behind gold medallists China.

The achievement marks a landmark moment for Indian women’s golf. Before Pranavi’s triumph, India’s only women’s golf medal at the Asian Games was Aditi Ashok’s silver at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

Born on April 15, 2003, in Mysuru, Pranavi started playing golf at the age of six. She turned professional in 2020 after a successful junior and amateur career and has since competed on international circuits, including the Ladies European Tour.

Her latest triumph in Aichi-Nagoya has now placed the 23-year-old in the history books as the first Indian woman Asian Games golf champion. If you want, I can also make this into a with a more punchy headline.
